“On the 4th August 2017 my dreams came true on Holkham Beach as my boyfriend got down on one knee (with my family hidden in the dunes cheering as I said ‘yes’)! Within the month the cathedral, reception, photographer, videographer and make up were booked (I am a bit organised)! Next was the cake!”
Nut allergies and wedding cakes
“With a nut allergy, it made trying cakes at wedding fairs impossible so it was down to William to try all the different suppliers and score down the best for taste. Having met Amber at Godwick Hall Fair and with Mum and Will agreeing the samples tasted wonderful, a consultation was booked.
Our first consultation with Amber was just fantastic, I remember walking into the kitchen and being completely overwhelmed by the wonderful decorated dummy cakes on display. Additionally, Amber had specifically made nut free samples for me try – instantly I agreed with Will, the best cake I’d ever had!”
The creation of our wedding cake
“The whole ‘creation’ of our cake was fantastic with the expertise of Amber. After many months it all started to come together and we decided upon a Norfolk and Yorkshire theme (I am from Norfolk and Will from Harrogate, Yorkshire). As we began to discuss flowers, we had the idea of having the Yorkshire white rose and Norfolk lavender, which was also perfect for the decoration of our cake.
I was constantly on Pinterest which gave me so many ideas, maybe too many! Amber was great at controlling these to ensure the design wasn’t too fussy, still looking simple and classy. For example the great suggestion to keep the cake completely white, so pleased we did this!
We did however want the cake to represent us and we are not the most serious couple, always laughing and joking. Therefore it only seemed right on our cake to go back to where this whole wedding journey started, with two figurines of us on Holkham beach (this image was our save the date too)!”
Choosing cake flavours
“In terms of cake flavours, me and William didn’t want to be too fussy (as we are probably what you describe as fussy eaters) – we wanted to accommodate all our guests. Fruit, Victoria Sponge, Chocolate and Lemon and Raspberry were our flavours and none disappointed – this was apparent as our guests demolished the entire cake!
Our cake may not have been the most trendy and fashionable but it was personal to us which I still believe is the most important thing about your wedding. I’ve said it a lot of brides, make your wedding personal to you. Lots of people will have the same church or reception venue, so add your own touch. It doesn’t matter whether you spend £5,000 or £25,000, make it a day about the two of you.”
