Ok, so don’t tell anyone, but as much as I adore making beautiful wedding cakes in my Dereham kitchen, I’ve always loved the idea of being a food stylist! So, when Liddy of The Little Horse Box approached me to make a luxury shabby chic wedding cake and dessert table for the launch and photography of her beautiful mobile bar I jumped at the chance!

Liddy wanted a look that was classic, elegant, and welcoming… vintage with a twist! Her wonderful horse box bar was restored and customised by local Norfolk craftsmen and now travels the county as a luxury mobile wine bar, catering for weddings, hen parties, anniversaries, and other special events.

The photoshoot took place at Happy Valley in Kings Lynn – a beautiful countryside retreat where you can unplug for a few days and relax in simple forest style. It also makes a glorious wedding location for a vintage or festival style celebration with wide, sweeping lawns, sun dappled wooded glades and a picturesque lake surrounded by weeping willows.

For the centrepiece, I created a four-tier vintage-inspired wedding cake, decorated with a romantic cascade of handmade sugar roses, peonies and hydrangeas. Although the design itself is chic and simple, the finished wedding cake is a total showstopper, it towers proudly above its surroundings, bringing a real sense of grandeur to the images.

In addition, I baked a beautiful semi naked lemon and raspberry drizzle cake. I get lots of requests for this flavour over the summer, it’s like eating a ray of sunshine! Add in a simple Victoria sponge covered in delicious vanilla buttercream,  trays of dainty iced shortbread biscuits and pretty cupcakes and the scene was set!

It was such a wonderful day. The weather was perfect, the models looked beautiful and I so enjoyed working with Liddy, Sophie of Sophie Cass Photography, Vintage Partyware who provided the wine barrel cake table and other vintage accessories for the shoot and other like-minded wedding creatives. It just goes to show that with a little planning and just the right amount of luck you really can plan and enjoy the wedding of your dreams… even if it is just for show!

It’s also given me a taste for wedding inspired photo sessions, so if you’re planning your own shoot in the near future, drop me a line and let’s see if we can work together!
